The Jewel of the Winelands

Let me tell you about a well-known estate—fondly know as the “The Jewel of the Winelands”. Words that come to mind when describing this property are luxury, elegance, sophistication, and precision. From the accommodation at the lodges, to the spa, to the two restaurants, and world-renowned wines, Delaire is in a class of its own.

With lush mountain views, this estate is designed with the discerning global traveler in mind. The quintessential Dutch architecture is styled in an African sense, with unique artifacts around every corner. The original art that is showcased is from Laurence Graff’s personal collection.

I have visited this estate before, however not since their addition of the owner’s new villa! What a beautiful new addition to this already incredible estate. Four bedrooms, plus an additional two rooms for staff, such as au pairs, or security traveling with the family, makes this villa the perfect option for families or a small group of friends traveling together.

Exquisitely designed and curated by the celebrated David Collins Studio, the villa encompasses over 660 sq.m. Delaire special touches are found throughout, with art pieces strategically placed, and elegant designs and open spaces, creating a very personal and exclusive stay in the winelands.

There are also two, 130 sq.m presidential lodges, each offering accommodation for 4 persons. You can expect the same level of luxury that you get throughout the hotel, with elegant finishes, wide open spaces, and a heated private pool overlooking the estate’s manicured gardens.

The six new superior rooms, as well as the original deluxe and luxury lodges, offer intimate stays for 2 guests. Whatever your rooming requirements for your booking, we will recommend the best accommodation option for you.

Tailored Ventures director Harland Lindsay has stayed at Delaire on two occasions and this is what he had to say:

Once was not enough

Thanks to Janette’s expert advice, my wife and I spent five glorious days at this unique, luxury estate, situated in the midst of majestic landscape, high up the Helshoogte Pass . Our lodge fronted on spectacular views of the Stellenbosch vineyards, often viewed while sipping cocktails in our personal, heated, infinity pool.

The last stop on our month-plus trip was four nights at this simply spectacular location! The surrounding landscape, reminiscent of Italy’s Tuscany region, is quite stunning—trees, mountains, established vineyards—all in a myriad of pastel colours. On the same property are a number of amenities open to the public: restaurant, Graff diamond store, etc. That area can be quite busy with day visitors, but once you drive through the lodge gates, peace ensues.

The individual lodges are beautifully situated and the grounds are beautifully maintained. Accommodation for two adults comprises deluxe and luxury lodges. Only the luxury lodges offer spectacular views: the Simonsberg Mountain Range, the Stellenbosch Valley, and the Graff Estate vineyards. They are well worth the price difference. Each 80 sq.m luxury lodge has a large bedroom and living room opening onto a terrace beside a private, heated, infinity, plunge pool.

The impeccable service and personal attention was not obsequious. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the management and staff.

Outside Delaire, there are spectacular drives through the mountains and, of course, a zillion wineries to visit.

Rarely do we stay twice in the same venue. How good was this place? Good enough to have us book again, the following year!

I highly recommend staying here during your Winelands stay. If not, a visit to the estate to sip on some stunning wines, or enjoy their restaurants; Indochine or Delaire Graff Estate restaurant is a must, not to mention their luxurious spa! Graff Boutique is also a must visit for your African diamonds.

Delaire Graff Estate offers the quintessential winelands experience to both families, and couples celebrating special occasions.
