My night in Franschhoek

Le Quartier Français offers you a Franschhoek visit in the heart of the village. This hotel is part of the Leeu Collection—an elegant and luxurious experience. I was lucky enough to stay here in early December, and to visit their other hotels too.

The Leeu Collection is a portfolio of luxury properties in Franschhoek South Africa, Windermere United Kingdom, and Florence Italy. All the hotels are focused on the guest experience—elegance, luxury and seamless attention to detail. Let me take you through the three hotels in Franschhoek and the amazing restaurants on the properties.

First on the list is Leeu Estates, the perfect venue for those looking for a remote estate-style stay, where you feel you are at the foot of the Franschhoek mountains. It is highly recommended for those who want to be a little bit outside the hustle and bustle, though town is only a five minute drive away if you would like to experience its arty atmosphere. This property is the flagship of the Leeu Collection. The spa is magnificent, and so is the Wine Studio run by the Mullineux & Leeu Family Wines team. Transfers within Franschhoek are included at all three hotels, so you can easily experience the facilities at the other hotels within the Leeu Collection, including the wide range of dining options. They really have focused on making your stay truly special!

Leeu Estates exudes a feeling of space and  everything has been designed with this in mind—the gardens, the suites, and the public areas. It provides a feeling of tranquility. The gardens and magnificent art collection make the experience absolutely breathtaking. If this isn’t private enough for you, they also have cottages located around the estate—perfect for honeymooners, or even families travelling together.

Second on the list is Leeu House, located right next door to Le Quartier in the village of Franschhoek. Small and intimate, the 12-bedroomed boutique hotel is modern, central, and elegant. Showcasing art is at the heart of the design of this property, and you are greeted with iconic statues of the Mahatma Ghandi and Nelson Mandela. This is another perfect option for honeymooners and those wanting a village experience in Franschhoek.

Third on the list is Le Quartier Français,  across the road from Leeu House, another intimate option, even although it’s in the heart of Franschhoek. This hotel has been around for many years and just recently joined the Leeu Collection family. Very popular for honeymooners, it focuses on special little treats to make newlyweds feel extra special. Le Quartier Français also focuses on little ones, making sure that family groups are catered for. Kids are made to feel just as special with little treats and attention to detail. There is a selection of different room types that vary in style and size, allowing you to find the perfect fit according to your requirements.

For some, the Winelands has always been a quick stopover, but I would recommend staying longer in this destination to just take it all in. The scenery and pure beauty of the region is one thing, but the activities available in the area, (not just wine tasting!), the dining options and, for those wanting to chill and enjoy spa treatments… I would personally stay at any of the Leeu Collection properties for longer, even four nights if you can!

The Leeu Collection has some pretty outstanding restaurants! You may remember the blog I released previously on fine dining in Franschhoek? Well La Petite Colombe is housed within Le Quartier Français. Other dining options include the newly added Protégé, which is the collection’s more casual restaurant option. I had a delicious breakfast here, and enjoyed dinner at Marigold, where I experienced Indian Cuisine like never before! Indian Cuisine in Franschhoek? Spectacular! Whether or not you are staying here, please treat yourself by dining here. It is right across the road from Le Quartier Français, and, as you step out, you are in the bustling village of Franschhoek, with its quaint boutiques and galleries. Another fun option within walking distance of Le Quartier Français and Leeu House is the Tuk Tuk Microbrewery, a very popular spot for tourists and locals alike. Here you can enjoy a beer-tasting and have simple meals such as tacos, nachos, burgers and burritos.

If you stay at Leeu Estates, you will have the choice of dining at The Dining Room located within the hotel, or simply make use of the hotel shuttle to the other restaurants within Franschhoek, at no additional cost.

I have always been very fond of Franschhoek and like to include it where I can in itineraries. There are so many options from which to choose, and I can’t wait to share them with you in your itinerary!

Special thanks to The Leeu Collection for the pictures
